Welcome to the Orangeburghplats.com Blog!

Posted on September 7, 2011 by Margaret

Since my land mapping research is such a huge project, I’ve decided to share some of the results of my work in small pieces, rather than waiting until I can publish another book. I will be writing about plats, surveyors,  land ownership, census records, roads and bridges, families, and any of the details of colonial and antebellum Orangeburgh District that affected the people of the area. I will try to post examples of my work from various parts of the district. If I don’t post something on your particular family of interest, perhaps it will be about their neighbors. Knowing something about your ancestors’ neighbors can be very helpful, particularly in an area where so many records were lost. Not to mention, the neighbors were probably relatives!

Hopefully you will find something of interest here that will help you in your research and understanding of the lives of those early inhabitants and landowners of Orangeburgh District. Please share your thoughts, comments and questions for everyone’s benefit!

Margaret the new website is wonderful. The value of your work with land records in Orangeburg District is vastly important. Due to the loss of so many records during the civil war, this information is very important to us Orangeburg researchers. Putting together the pieces of this huge puzzle has to be an arduous but rewarding task. Many, many thanks!

Thanks you for your support and encouragement, Pam. This is a LOT of work but it is also so much fun! I am hoping to get comments and feedback on many of the postings so we can all learn new pieces of our Orangeburgh history.
